Could Sony Soon give us "The Last Guardian"?

    This article delves into the past turmoil surrounding the supposed spiritual successor to Shadows of the Colossus, one of the most artistic, beautiful and most well received games developed for the PS2. The game was originally announced in 2009, four years after Shadows of the Colossus was released, but no additional information has been released since then besides a few pictures of the main characters and short quotes from the developers on the games progress and in 2011 a remastered version of Shadows of the Colossus was released. One quote stated that the game was now being developed under new conditions leading many to believe that the game is being developed for the PS4, Sony's newest console.

"Talks with Sony Computer Entertainment on The Last Guardian have been ironed out, and we're making progress under completely new conditions. I'm also working on some other things that I'll hopefully be able to show in time if progress is smooth."

That's not much to go on! And heck, the words PlayStation 4 never were said by Ueda. Do those "new conditions" refer to the PS4? A new platform?

Considering how Sony is trying to bring as many gamers over to the PS4 and how Ueda is still even mentioning the game, it would be a safe bet to say The Last Guardian is now a PS4 game. 

    Although  Shadows of the Colossus is a gorgeously designed game and the little information from The Last Guardian we have received from Team Ico/Sony seem very promising, the failed attempt at marketing this game by announcing it's release over half a decade before its release has driven most of the series' fans away. The fact that next to no information on the game has been released in all that time completely destroyed any excitement around the game.

Steam is Starting to Stream!!!

Steam Launches A Game-Streaming Service To Compete With Twitch

     Valve recently announced a live streaming capability for Steam, the most popular PC gaming application, community, and store. This streaming software is said to have been created to compete with Twitch TV another live streaming service, which has the same or similar following and demographic as Steam. Twitch began using Streaming as away for the content creators and the company itself to profit years ago, and the $970 million dollar acquisition of Twitch by Amazon shows that it is a lucrative business that Valve and Steam want a part in.

"Live-streaming services have gained massive popularity in the last five years, and with Twitch's recent acquisition by Amazon for $970 million, Steam is clearly eager to enter into the streaming space."

"Broadcasting makes a lot of sense for Steam, essentially eliminating the need for players to use multiple programs when they're gaming."

"This means that if a friend is having trouble with a level, you could tune in to their live stream and offer advice"

     This is an extremely intelligent move on Valve's part because Steam has slowly over the past few years developed a community that is hard to find else where by becoming a gaming hub, satisfying the chatting, purchasing, and playing needs of the common PC gamer. This is one more step in becoming the perfect gaming hub by giving the player convenience of not needed to set up twitch to stream. However many gamers make money on Twitch through streaming and will not move to Steam if they cannot make that same money. This is just a beta so maybe Steam will create a partnership program with the streamers later on, but if they don't their broadcasting service will be limited to a more personal and casual gaming market. Either way I think it was a smart move for Steam, so high five Valve, you deserve it.

Summary - 

     This article goes into the marketing and effects of Nintendo's new line of NFC figures, known as Amiibos. It also discusses past ventures of video game developers into the toyToLife market and how Nintendo's is supposedly different. There are also a few different quotes and analysis from experts on the state of Nintendo.

-"Nintendo, long a leader in the video game industry, needs a new sales hit. The company reported a profit in its most recent quarter, but losses had piled up in recent years as consumers turned to less expensive games on smartphones and other mobile devices."

     Nintendo has been struggling because of the failed third party console, the Wii U, as indicated by the first quote. It's main problems were lack of third-party support, unattractive marketing, and not enough iconic launch titles. Nintendo seems to have realized and attempted to fix two out the three problems because their recent marketing strategies have been praised by many and they are finally creating the software that people were expecting at launch, such as super mario 3D World and Smash Bros.
     I disagree with the final two quotes more than a butcher disagrees with a vegetarian. The second quote states that the amiibos being limited to the Wii U will be its fault because the demographic these figures are directed at are obviously small children (6-12), which are the most likely to have a Wii U. The third quote is partially true because eventually Nintendo will run out of things to look back on, but for now the public wants classic Nintendo products re-imagined, judging by how specific games are selling. Also since some metros use NFC similar to amiibos, it has been shown that they can be used to open metro gates, which is awesome and hilarious, if it in fact works.

Summary -

     In this article Paul Tassi briefly explains how Nintendo is intelligently using their two new titles, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U to come back from their financial down trend. Nintendo is using spaced out animated trailers to build up anticipation for its upcoming games, as well as finally welcoming a professional community to this game when they a;ways shunned that community from playing their games.

      He sums up the marketing strategy well, but he misses a few key points. The 3DS version of this game served to even further increase the hype for the franchise, while at the same time bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars into the company. It was also an amazing game, allowing for multiple bonuses if purchased before the WiiU version. 
      At the end of the article he raises the question if the Wii U version will actually deliver to these immense expectations, and although I sadly do not own the Wii U version yet, but judging by the social network(mainly YouTube and twitch) craze it has spawned, along with it's 92/100 score on metacritic, I can assume the public absolutely loves it. One bundle of the game sold out the first day and is going for almost 200% the price on third party websites such as ebay and amazon, which means I can't get the bundle yet. I'm so sad. I want to play it.
